Closed yesterday, then spent the evening out at the new house, cleaning and ripping up carpet and stuff. Way cool, man. Can't believe we own a house! And such a groovy house, too . . . . Particularly the yard, but the rest of the house will be so gorgeous when we're done!!!!

Dubya's speech was well written, seemed to have phrases turned much better than I've ever heard from him before. I wonder how much he's paying them?

BTW, Hillary looked a bit discomfitted during the speech, almost as tho she was thinking, "Well, shit. Now I have to wait until 2008!"

Closing tomorrow . . . . Twitching right now . . . .

I don't understand the whole SpongeBob SquarePants thing. I guess it's supposed to be funny, or clever, but, just like Beavis & Butthead, the stupidity doesn't amuse me. There are many, many other cases where it does, like Ready To Rumble, but . . . . I dunno. It's like I'm missing out on a cultural reference of some sort. I think the name's funny, is that enough?

Trying to get the final bits in place. Between buying the house, dealing with the kids, and still being freaked out by the attacks of last week (was it such a short time ago?), I'm having a hard time getting anything done. Well, the fact that I'm bone idle doesn't help. But work has definitely suffered.

BTW, not like you probably give a shit, unless, of course, you know me, but I'm closing on the house Friday, at 1:00, which is about 39 hrs from now. Fucking amazing . . . .

Operation Infinite Justice?

What a fucking stupid name. Not to mention dangerous. It makes it feel like a crusade, which is, well, bad.

-*-SIGH-*-

Why is it that everyone wears ribbons? Tuesday afternoon/evening, my lovely wife and I drove to a local fabric store, bought some black cloth, and wore black armbands for the rest of the week. Americans were not the only ones killed in this outrageous assault, and I want to make sure the others are remembered, too.

But I guess I wonder how ribbons have come to mean something. It's so damn pretentious. If you're going to mourn, don't look pretty while you do it!

I've never once in my life felt such a swelling of patriotism, of "We're the good guys" as I felt last week. I'm sure that will fade, as our government does something to fuck it up. There's a polarization happening in Washington DC, with Colin Powell on one side and the civilian Dept of Defense on the other. Basically Powell wants to limit military action to Afghanistan and deal with other sponsors of terrorism by diplomacy and blockades etc. while civilian DODers want to ride off in all directions at once with military force. Wouldn't you have thought that it would be the other way around?

I'm tired, all the way thru my bones. But I'm doing better today than I have been.

We got the FHA approval yesterday, so we're probably going to be closing this week, probably about Wednesday. We're going to be broke, but at least we'll have a nice house with great floors.
